‘The ‘ideo-log’ Project’ presents an array of digital media artefacts that together consider how political discourse can be manipulated by manufactured social media activity. Across an iPhone app, video, text, images, Twitter accounts, and connected websites, a conversation emerges between the artist and an anonymous informant from a political consultancy firm. The work leads the viewer on a conspiratorial investigative journey where the distinctions between fact and fiction become blurred. Viewers can interact with the mysterious iPhone app, presented as the technological residue of an insidious corporate experiment: a dis-information machine geared towards polarising political opinion, and manipulating social media activity. Through the printed PowerPoint slides, video interview, and QR-connected websites, viewers can explore the surrounding framework of political posturing that actively undermines the foundations and ideals of democracy.
